Applications, in prescribed forms obtainable from the Sales Counter at Rajbati, (and not by post) on payment of Rs. 450/- (Rupees four hundred and fifty only) in cash, between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on all working days (except Saturdays, Sundays and University Holidays), are invited for admission to the P.G. courses of studies in the following subjects for the academic session 2013- 2015 to be conducted at B.U. Campus(both normal shift and additional shift) and in some of the affiliated and constituent colleges.

Application Dorms may also be downloaded at www.buruniv.ac.in. Downloaded forms must be accompanied with a Bank Draft of Rs. 450/- drawn in favour of The finance Officer, The University of Burdwan.

  • Eligibility :
    • (Except Mass Communication) Honours Graduates of any recognized University, who has done the three-year Honours Course (10+2+3 pattern), are eligible to apply.
    • Applicants from other Universities, who are waiting for final results, can also apply, provided that at time of admission they have to submittheir final mark-sheets, if selected.
    • For Mass Communication: Graduates of 10+2+3 pattern (General/Hons.)/Graduates of 10+2+2 pattern passing one year Bridge Course or its equivalent/One year P.G. Diploma in J. & M. C. from any recognized University.

Intending candidates may also obtain application forms for accommodation in the University Hostels from the Sales Counter only on payment of Rs. 10/- (Rupees ten only), alongwith the application form for admission. Forms for Hostel accommodation is also available at www.buruniv.ac.in. Price of forms (Rs. 10/-) be paid in the form of a draft. On the spot allotment will be made after the completion of admission formalities on the basis of availability of seats.

INFORMATION SHEET

Candidates are advised to follow the information and instructions as given below :

  • Candidates must ensure that they have carefully and neatly entered their detailed marks of examinations in the relevant columns of form. Any overwriting or double writing should be avoided.
  • Candidates must enclose attested photo copies of all the public examinations passed and attested Xerox copy of admit card of Madhyamik Pariksha or equivalent examination with the application form. Candidates, who claim reservation against the SC*/ST*/ Physically Handicapped**/ Sports*** quota, must also enclose attested Xerox copy of the relevant certificate to authenticate their claims.
  • The duly filled in form is to be submitted by the due date specified in the advertisement a

    (i) for all pass out candidates(except Santali & Urdu) from the University of Burdwan – the Department of concerned subject, Humanities Building, Golapbag Campus, the University of Burdwan.

    (ii) for candidates from other Universities and all the applicants of Santali & Urdu –Office of the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts, etc.), Rajbati, Burdwan - 713104 .
  • The application form should preferably be submitted personally or through messenger between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on all working days (Monday to Friday). The duly filled in downloaded form must accompany a demand draft of Rs. 450/- drawn in favour of “Finance Officer, The University of Burdwan” payable at State Bank of India, Burdwan Universty Branch, atthe time of submssion.
  • No postal communication regarding selection and admission will be made to any candidate.

* Relevant Certificate must conform to West Bengal Govt. Memo No. 1813-BCW/MR-94/11 dated 20th June, 2011.Candidates claiming reservation against SC/ST quota of seats must submit relevant caste certificates issued in their favour by one of the authorities listed below :
Deputy Collector of Land Revenue, Kolkata Collector of Stamp Revenue, Kolkata Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, Addl. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, 1st Class Stipendary Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Officer, Deputy Collcetor, Addl. District Magistrate, Collector and District Magistrate within their respective jurisdictions in case of candidates claiming to be Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe and ordinarily residing within such jurisdictions.

** Candidates intending to avail the quota for P.W.D. ( P.H.) for them the Certificate must be live and issued by an appropriate authority not below the rank of Superintendent of Sub-Divisional Hospital. In the certificate, the extent of Physical Disability must not be below 40%. Candidates who claim reservation against such quota must also personally appear before the Medical Board constituted by the University as per the following schedule at the Office Chamber of the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts etc.),Assembly Hall, Rajbati, B.U. for determining their eligibility of admission in this quota.

*** Only such candidates, who participated in the Inter-State Inter-University Sports and Athletic level competition in such games as approved by the A.I.U. (on or after 2011), are entitled to claim reservation benefit against this quota (one seat in each subject) subject to recommendation of the Sports Officer of the University of Burdwan.


PROCEDURE OF SELECTION :

  • 60% of the total intake of seats will be reserved exclusively for the pass outs candidates from the Under-Graduate Colleges affiliated to the University of Burdwan. Admission to these seats will be offered strictly on the basis of marks secured in the concerned Honours subject. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours Degree, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. And if the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also be the same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking.
  • Remaining 40% of the seats will be filled up through written admission test from the applicants of the University of Burdwan, who fail to get admission on merit in the 60% of seats and the applicants from Other University. Five percent ( 5%) of the seats will be offered to the candidates from Universities outside the State of West Bengal. In case of the uniform marks in the written test, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Honours Degree is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list.

ADMISSION CALENDER

  • For 60% of the total intake of seats -
    Admission to the above subjects at the University of Burdwan and its affiliated/constituent college(s) for the academic session 2013-2015 will be made strictly on the basis of the merit of the candidates who have formally applied for admission to the courses, through counselling. The merit list for first counselling (inclusive of all categories) will be published and displayed as per the following schedule at the Office of the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts etc.), B. U. at its Rajbati Campus and also available at the University’s website: www.buruniv.ac.in. Candidates are, therefore, advised to turn up to see for themselves their position in the published merit list for such counselling.
    • Dates of publication of merit lists, including waiting list, (inclusive of all categories) for the 60% of the total intake (for the candidates passed out from the University of Burdwan) for all subjects except Mass Communication –12/8/2013.
    • First Counselling andAdmission except Mass Communication :
      The first counselling for the above subjects will be held as per the following dates and time at Auditorium Hall, Golapbag Campus, the University of Burdwan. No postal communication will be made to the candidates in this regard. Please also note that no candidate will be entertained for counselling if he/she or his/her authorised person fails to turn up for counselling by the stipulated date and time. Any request over phone or otherwise will not be entertained in this respect. Once an applicant is being declared as “absent”, he/she will be automatically out from the procedure of admission for admission to the 60% of the total intake. However, he/she will be permitted to appear in the written test for the 40% of the total intake. Admission of the selected candidates will be made on spot immediately after counselling. Details of fees will be communicated at the time of publication of short list for first counseling..

  • Written admission testfor rest 40% of the total intake will be conducted on 24.8.2013 (Sunday)from 12 noon at Golapbag Academic Campus/DDE Building, the University of Burdwan and admit card for the written test will be distributed amongst candidates on and from 21.8.2013 to 23.8.2013.
    • Dates of publication of merit lists, including waiting list (inclusive of all categories) for all subjects –02/09/2013.
    • Second Counselling and Admission for 40% of the total intake of seats including Mass Communication (60% & 40%).
    The couselling and spot admission will be conducted as per the following schedule at the Auditorium Hall, Golapbag Campus, the University of Burdwan. No postal communication will be made to the candidates in this regard. Please also note that no candidate will be entertained for counselling if he/she or his/her authorised person fails to turn up for counselling by the stipulated date and time. Any request over phone or otherwise will not be entertained in this respect.

    Third Counselling for 60% and 40% of the total intake and also against resultant vacancies (for all subjects ) –

    Seats, remaining vacant, if any, after completion of the admission formalities of the candidates selectedon the basis of merit for 60% of the total intake and performance in the written test for 40% of the total intakeand also against resultant vacancies, will be filled up through third counseling which will be held as per the following schedule at Rajbati Campus, B.U. Candidates, waiting next in the merit list after first counselling and also the candidates who had no opportunity to opt for the place of admission at first counselling but have taken admission and attended required number of classes in the course at the place, other than of their choice, are therefore, advised to turn up for third counselling by the stipulated date and time.

    However, if any candidate fails to turn up personally on the day of third counselling, anybody, on his/her behalf (with due authorisation) may attend third counselling. It is also to be noted that candidates, reporting either personally or through authorised representative at the date and time of first counselling for admission but did not get chance to admit at the first counselling due to non-availability of seats, will be given preference over those not appearing on the day of first counselling, while filling up resultant vacancies. No postal communication will be made in this regard. Candidates selected for the admission at third counselling in all cases will be required to deposit admission fee prescribed for the purpose. Admission fee once paid is not refundable or adjustable against any subsequent admission. Admission of the selected candidates will be made on spot immediately after counseling.

General information

  • Candidates are required to produce the following documents in original at the time of admission :
    • Original Mark-sheets of all the public examinations passed and Original Admit Card of Madhyamik Pariksha or equivalent examination.
    • Schedule Cast/Schedule Tribes/Physically Handicapped/Sports Certificate in original.
  • Hostel seats at the B.U. are limited and, therefore, accommodation in hostels cannot be assured. Students, however, may apply for hostel accommodation in the prescribed form to be had from the University Sales Counter, at Rajbati, B.U. and contact the Office of Placement & Student welfare, at Rajbati just after taking admission.
  • If any student admitted to the course concerned fails to attend at least 50% classes held during the first 10 days since the commencement of the classes without any information stating valid grounds, his/her name may be liable to be struck off the University/College rolls without any prior information and candidates waiting next in the serial of the Merit List of the subject concerned may be admitted against vacancies that occur. It is also to be noted that as stipulated in the B.U. Ordinance, no student shall be deemed to have prosecuted a regular course of study for purposes of P.G. examination unless he/she has attended 65% of the lecture delivered and tutorial classes held. Faculty Council may, however, for sufficient reasons and recommendations of the concerned Head of the Department and on payment of usual fees, condone any shortage of attendance in the case of a student who has attended 50% of the lectures delivered and tutorials done.
  • As per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, it is notified that if any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his /her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him/her from the institution.

The Admit Card for the written test for 40% of the total intake will have to be downloaded by the candidates from the University’s website: www.buruniv.ac.in on and from 21.08.2013 to 23.08.2013 and the date of the written admission test will be conducted on 24.08.2013.

Applications are invited for admission to the P. G. course of studies in Business Administration (MBA) & Business Administration (Human Resource) approved by UGC and AICTE for the academic session: 2013-2015.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION :
Graduate in Arts, Commerce, Science, and in any other branches of Social Science in the 10+2+3 mode or Graduate in Engineering, Technology, Medicine, Pharmacy and Agriculture.

SELECTION :
Selection of candidates for admission to the above programmes will be made on the basis of two-phase admission test. The first phase includes CMAT conducted by AICTE. The second phase comprises Group Discussion & Viva-voce test to be conducted by the Department (Short listed candidates on the basis of written test score will be called for GD. & Viva-voce). Candidates with valid MAT (conducted by AIMA) scores can also apply for admission and appear before GD and Viva. However their admission will be subject to availability of seats after the completion of admission of selected students with CMAT scores. Final selection will be made on the basis of total marks obtained in Group Discussion, Viva-voce and Written Test taken together. For this purpose, along with the University application form, candidates must submit the attested photocopy of the valid scorecard held by them.

HOW TO APPLY :
Eligible candidates willing to apply for this programme must obtain the University application form. The University form may be obtained in person or anybody on his/her behalf from the University sales counter at Rajbati, Burdwan from 10.06.2013 to 02.07.2013 on payment of Rs. 500/- in cash and on production of relevant degree mark-sheet with valid score card between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on all University week days (except Saturdays, Sundays and other Holidays).

SUBMISSION OF FORMS
As you fill in the University form, please enclose (a) attested Xerox copies of the mark-sheets of all the public examinations passed by you, (b) attested Xerox copy of Madhyamik Admit card, (c) attested Xerox copy of the SC*/ST*/P.H. ** certificate from appropriate authorities in case you belong to those communities and (d) a photocopy of the valid scorecards of CMAT/MAT. Get your receipt of the form submitted duly signed by the Receiving Assistant of the Office. And since you will be wishing to obtain the receipt, please enclose a self-addressed stamped (Rs.5/-) envelope so that we can send the receipt to you by post.

Selection of students
Applicants are advised to note the following information regarding selection :

  • Viva-voce and group discussion for all applicants will be held during July 11 & 12, 2013
    The schedule of holding Viva-voce and Group Discussion for individual candidates will be displayed at the Office of the Secretary, F.C. (Arts) on 08.07.2013 and will also be available at the university website: www.buruniv.ac.in. No postal communication will be made in this regard.
  • The merit list for counselling will be published on July 17, 2013.
    Separate merit list will be prepared for candidates with valid CMAT and MAT scores comprising written test score (CMAT/MAT), Group Discussion and Viva-voce scores taken together on the basis of a cutoff scored to be decided by the University. You may, therefore, contact the office of the undersigned or visit the university website to see for yourself your position in the merit list. Kindly note that merit list will be prepared on the basis of total marks obtained in Group Discussion, Viva-Voce and Written test scores taken together. Details of course fee and other information relating to counselling and admission will be notified alongwith the merit list.
  • Spot admission to the two courses will be made on the basis of counselling to be held on 24th July, 2013 at Rajbati, The University of Burdwan.

PUBLICATION OF MERIT LIST AND FIRST COUNSELLING FOR ADMISSION :

For 60% of the total intake (candidates from the University of Burdwan), the provisional merit list for first counselling (inclusive of all categories) will be published and displayed on 27.07.2013 at the Office of the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts etc.), Burdwan University at its Rajbati Campus and will also be available on University’s website (http//www.buruniv.ac.in).

The first counseling and admission for 60% of the total intake will be held on 29.07.2013 at 12 noon sharp at the Court Room, New Administrative Building, Rajbati Campus, B.U. No postal communication will be made to the candidates in this regard. Please also note that no candidate will be entertained for admission if he/she or his/her authorised person fails to turn up for counselling by the stipulated date and time. Any request over phone or otherwise will not be entertained in this respect.

ADMISSION :

Admission of the selected candidates intending to take admission in the Department of Commerce, Golapbag Complex, the University of Burdwanwill be made on spot immediately after counselling. For candidates intending to take admission in Hooghly Mohsin College, the date(s) and time of admission will be announced at the time of counselling. Details of admission fees and other charges will be communicated at the time of publication of short list for first counselling.

Written test for rest 40% of the total intake will be conducted on 11th August (Sunday) from 12 noon at Golapbag Academic Campus, the University of Burdwan and admit card for the written test will be distributed amongst candidates on and from 05/8/2013.

The short list for admission to the 40% seats will be published on 22.08.2013 and the couselling and admission will be held on 26.08.2013 at the Court Room, New Administrative Building, Rajabti Campus, B.U., other norms for admission will be as per first counselling.

Seats remaining vacant, if any, after the admission of 40% seats and also against resultant vacancy if any, will be filled up through counselling which will be held on 18.09.2013 at 12 noon sharp at the Court Room, New Administrative Building, Rajbati, B.U. Candidates waiting next in the merit list after the admission of 40% seatsare advised to turn up for this counselling by the stipulated date and time. However, if any candidate fails to turn up personally on the day of this counselling, anybody on his/her behalf may attend the counseling with due authorization. General information :

  • Candidates are required to produce the following documents in original at the time of admission :
    • Original Mark-sheets of all the public examinations passed and Original Admit Card of Madhyamik Pariksha or equivalent examination.
    • Schedule Cast/Schedule Tribes/Physically Handicapped/Sports Certificate in original.
  • Hostel seats at the B.U. are limited and, therefore, accommodation in hostels cannot be assured. Students, however, may apply for hostel accommodation in the prescribed form to be had from the University Sales Counter, at Rajbati, B.U. and contact the Office of Placement & Student welfare, at Rajbati just after taking admission.
  • If any student admitted to the course concerned fails to attend at least 50% classes held during the first 10 dayssince the commencement of the classes without any information stating valid grounds, his/her name may be liable to be struck off the University/College rolls without any prior information and candidates waiting next in the serial of the Merit List of the subject concerned may be admitted against vacancies that occur. It is also to be noted that as stipulated in the B.U. Ordinance, no student shall be deemed to have prosecuted a regular course of study for purposes of P.G. examination unless he/she has attended 65% of the lecture delivered and tutorial classes held. Faculty Council may, however, for sufficient reasons and recommendations of the concerned Head of the Department and on payment of usual fees, condone any shortage of attendance in the case of a student who has attended 50% of the lectures delivered and tutorials done.
  • As per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, it is notified that if any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his /her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him/her from the institution.

Applications in prescribed form obtainable from the Sales Counter of the University (not by post) on payment of Rs.450/-in cash, are invited for admission to P.G. Courses of studies (M.Sc./M.A.), Session : 2013-2015 in Geography.

Forms may be had between 11-00 a.m. and 1-30 p.m. on all working days from 12.07.2013 to 26.07.2013. Candidates awaiting results of B.A/ B.Sc 3rd year examination can collect forms on production of mark sheet of B.A/ B.Sc 2nd year examination. Issue of form to a candidate will not, however, mean University’s acceptance of his/her eligibility to apply. Forms may also be downloaded from the University website www.buruniv.ac.in but such forms are to be submitted as per instructions laid down in the Information Sheet. Last date of submission of filled-in forms is 26th July, 2013. Students requiring accommodation in University hostels may collect separate form and information sheet (Price Rs.10/-) from the Sales Counter of the University along with the application form for admission. Hostel allotment will be made on the spot after completion of admission formalities on the basis of availability of seats.

  • General Information For The Applicants :
    • Forms for admission to the P.G. Courses of Studies under the Faculty Council (Sc.) will be issued during the period from 12.07.2013 to 26.07.2013 excluding Sundays and Holidays.
    • Candidates must enclose attested copies of mark-sheets of all the public examinations passed upto the graduate level including the degree Part-I examination, College Leaving Certificate and Age Certificate alongwith the filled-in forms to be submitted on or before 26.07.2013.
    • Employed candidates must apply through proper channel and must submit certificate regarding admissibility of leave in respect of duration of the course and NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from the deputing authorities.
    • Candidates claiming reservation against SC/ST quota of seats must submit relevant caste certificates issued in their favour by one of the authorities listed below.
      • District Magistrate, Collector, Addl. Dist. Magistrate, Deputy Collector, SubDivisional Officer, Sub-Div. Magistrate, 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, Collector of Stamp Revenue and Deputy Collector of land Revenue, Kolkata, within their respective jurisdictions in case of candidates claiming to be SC/ST and ordinarily residing within such jurisdictions.
      • Director /Deputy Director, SC & Tribes Welfare, W.B. in case of candidates claiming to be SC/ST residing in any part of W.B.
    • Candidates claiming reservation against the quota of seats meant for Physically Handicapped (PH) persons must submit relevant certificates issued/renewed not earlier than 3 years from the date of applying by the proper authorities not below the rank of Suptd. of Sub Divisional Hospital.
    • Candidates seeking admission against Sports (SP) quota of seats, must have to submit certificates for their participation in Inter-State or Inter-University Sports and Athletic competitions (date of issue of certificate should be within 3 years of date of application).
    • Teaching at post-graduate level is imparted, in addition to the concerned Department at the University Campus, at the Chandernagore Govt. College, Chandernagore. Admission of candidates in the said subject at both the centres will be regulated from this office on the basis of counselling to be held for the purpose.
    • Whereas the candidates belonging to this University would, in general, submit the filled-in forms at the concerned P.G. Departments at Golapbag, B.U., the following categories of candidates must submit their forms at the office of the Faculty Council (Sc.) at Rajbati :
      • Those seeking admission against PH and SP quota of seats (B.U./O.U.)
      • Those belonging to Universities otherthan Burdwan University (O.U.).
    • Candidates seeking admission in the quota of seats reserved for disabled persons, must have to appear for an interview before a Medical Board at the office of the Secretary, Faculty Council(Sc.) to be held at 1-00 p.m. on 29.07.2013 (Monday).
    • 60% of the total seats for all departments are reserved for pass-outs from colleges under the University of Burdwan and admission to these seats will be considered on the basis of the performance in the relevant honours papers. Remaining 40% seats will filled up through Open Admission test. Candidates from other Universities within and outside West Bengal will have to appear in the said admission test. Candidates from the colleges under the University of Burdwan can also appear in the said admission test to vie for a better option regarding choice of centre of study. Not more than 5% of the 40% seats will be offered to the students from other states.
    • In the category of 60% seats, if more than one candidate is found to have secured same marks in honours examination, then their performance in Higher Secondary or equivalent examination will be considered to make a preference of one over the other. Likewise, if the performances at plus-two stage are found to be same, then performance at secondary level will be considered for final decision. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BU. Under 40% seats, if more than one student is found to have secured same marks in Open Admission Test, then their academic performance at honours level will be considered for final selection. If honours level performance is found to be same for more than one student in this category, then the principle adopted in 60% category in such situation will be followed here also.
    • For hostel accommodation, separate form is to be filled up and kept ready for submission as per instructions laid down in the Information Sheet issued with the said form. Hostel seats are, however, limited and, therefore, accommodation in hostels cannot be guaranteed.
  • Submission Of Forms Received From The Website :
    Such forms duly filled-in and supported by relevant documents as prescribed above and a bank draft of Rs.450/- only (Rs.460/- in case form for hostel accommodation is also downloaded) in favour of Finance Officer, the University of Burdwan payable at Burdwan.
  • Distribution of Admit Card for Admission Test from website :
    Will Commence on 07.08.13.
  • Admission Programme :
    • The short-list of candidates will be published at the office of the undersigned on 19.08.2013 (Monday) at 3 p.m.
    • On the day of admission, candidates (or their authorised representatives) must have to report before a Counselling Board at University Auditorium at Golapbag on 26.08.13 at 11 AM with original copies of relevant credentials and necessary fees of admission on the date(s) and time specified below.

      Candidates reporting after the time of reporting will not be entertained in any case. Candidates admitted either at University Department or at affiliated college would be allowed to change their institution in case of future vacancies at the other institution, subject to the fulfillment of usual norms including the last date of admission. Admission of candidates by way of mutual exchange of centre would not, however, be allowed. Candidates remaining absent in the couselling sessions will not be considered for admission for vacancies created at later stages.
    • Resultant vacancies, if any, created in the P.G. Courses of Studies within the first 15 working days since commencement of classes, will be filled up by way of counselling as stated above by the candidates in the proper serial of the short lists – reporting to the office of the undersigned on 18.09.2013 (Tuesday).
  • Necessary Fees For Admission :
    An amount of Rs. 2,250 is to be paid at the time of admission at University Department of Studies.
  • Commencement Of Classes :
    Classes for P.G. Course of studies are likely to commence from 27.08.2013.
  • Important Guidelines Regarding Attending Classes After Admission :
    • The enrolment of a candidate shall be cancelled without any reference to him /her in case he/she fails to attend without prior intimation and without valid reasonable grounds at least 50% of the classes held during the first 15 working days since the commencement of classes in a subject.
    • As per provision of B.U. Ordinance, no student shall be deemed to have prosecuted a regular course of study for purposes of examination unless he/she has attended 65% of the lectures delivered and tutorial classes held. However, a candidate may be allowed to sit for the final examination, subject to fulfilment of some conditions, in case he/she attends at least 50% of the lectures delivered and tutorial classes held.
